The School of Philosophy and Sociology held the Young Scholar Dialogue Salon of the 11th Postgraduate Annual Symposium

The Young Scholar Dialogue Salon of the 11th Postgraduate Annual Symposium was held by the School of Philosophy and Sociology on Nov. 15 at 19:00 in Qiyun Building 349. Associate Professor Jin Xiaofang was invited to the salon and more than 30 postgraduate students attended this academic activity.

The first part of the salon is a dialogue with the invited young scholar. Assoc. Prof. Jin gave a report entitled “Hui Warehouse and Local Society”, and explained what is warehouse, how to choose the research perspective, what is the history of the Hui warehouse, what is the inter-embedding between warehouses and the local society, and their co-construction in the non-commercial fields. In the end, Assoc. Prof. Jin shared her research achievement about the double feature of Hui in market, who pay much attention to their ethnic identity. She said, through marriage based on social relations, the Hui population limit themselves in their social circles and their trade relations. Since social relation is based on commercial relation, and economic activities and social activities form each other in their interactions, the relationship between Hui warehouse and the local society should be comprehended from a multiple perspective.

In the second part of the salon, several students gave their reports based around the subject “from rural China to urban China: village changing in the transformation of China”. Li Guoquan, a postgraduate majoring sociology of grade 2018, described the essential features of rural China and urban China and stated the challenges encountered in the process of country differentiation and the correlated country governance. Li Xiaohui, a postgraduate majoring philosophy of grade 2018, raised a problem about the left-behind children in the changing rural areas. Deng Yanbin, a postgraduate majoring social work of grade 2018, stated the current situation and the outlook of Taobao in the countryside.

In the last part of the salon, Zhang Qingdan and Gao Huaiyang, postgraduates majoring sociology of grade 2017, said that, doing research should begin with a very concrete subject directed by a question from a broad perspective.

The salon ended in enthusiastic discussions.
