On the evening of June 26 and 27, at the invitation of the School of Philosophy and Society of Lanzhou University, six experts and scholars from well-known universities in China held an online lecture titled "Historical Experience and Enlightenment significance of the Integration of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism" on the two platforms of Academic Journal and Tencent Conference. This lecture was hosted by Professor Chen Shengbai, dean of School of Philosophy and Society of Lanzhou University. More than 1000 people from domestic and overseas academic circles have listened to this lecture online.
During the meeting, six authoritative scholars launched the topic of "Historical experience and enlightenment significance of the integration of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism" from their respective perspectives.
From the perspective of the history of Chinese philosophy, Professor Wang Zhongjiang expressed that the integration of thoughts needs to be built on the premise of pluralism, openness and inclusiveness of thoughts.
Starting from linguistic perspective, Professor Wu Genyou took the concepts of "benevolence" and "compassion" as examples to explore the vivid fusion between Confucianism with "benevolence" as its core in everyday language, early Taoism with "kindness" as its core, and Buddhism with "compassion" as its core.
Based on the model of empire, commerce and religion, Professor Wang Song revealed the uniqueness of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism against the background of China's comprehensive national strength at that time.
From the perspective of classical hermeneutics, Professor Jing haifeng has constructed the history of translation and interpretation of the integration of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism, revealing the whole vision of cultural development. He emphasized that the communication between Chinese culture and western culture should be viewed from the integrated view of Confucianism, Buddhism, Taoism, And The five Religions.
Professor Gong Jun used the history of thought as a method to distinguish two approaches to explore the integration of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism: the approach of internal hermeneutics and the approach of genealogy of history of thought.
Based on the comparison between Chinese and Western cultures, Professor Gao expressed the basic view that cultural diversity and identity are equally important.
At the end of the talk, Professor Wu Genyou concluded that the shared view among the scholars at the conference was that cultural identity and diversity should be given equal attention. Professor Chen Shengbai summed up the talks in three words: openness, pluralism and integration. He said that narrow-minded nationalism or populism should be avoided at present, and the development of Chinese culture should face the world and major issues of The Times.
