2021-06-25

On June 25th, at the invitation of the School of Philosophy and Society of Lanzhou University, Professor Wang Xing from Zhou Enlai School of Government of Nankai University delivered an academic lecture entitled "Sociological Analysis of Craftsman spirit, Skill Formation and Industrial Innovation" in Xinglin Building 106. The lecture was presided over by Professor Zhou Yaping.

This lecture mainly includes three parts: "The reality and policy background of craftsman spirit", "the definition of craftsman spirit" and "skill formation and skill formation system". Prof.Wang talked the trade war between China and the United States from the beginning. He believed that China's economy and society have entered an era of internal circulation due to increasingly fierce international competition and trade friction, and manufacturing has never become so important. From the strategic height of the overall work of the Party and the state, the construction of the ranks of industrial workers is the top priority.

Prof.Wang then starts with the definition of craftsman spirit. He defined craftsman spirit as a kind of behavior formed by workers in the process of working in a specific industry, which is embedded in the structure of the social system and is a part of the production system.

From the perspective of sociological logic, industrial innovation needs cumulative craftsman spirit, that is, attaching importance to people and things on the front line of production. All research and development must be combined with the labor practice of workshop production. Innovation and upgrading of the production process depend on the ability of technological transformation, which lies in the accumulation of skills and experience and the ability to solve problems in the production process.

There are some institutional conflicts in the system of skill formation in China, which have become an important institutional factor affecting the accumulation of national skills. For China at present, both the manufacturing industry and the information technology industry are in a critical stage of transformation. How to get rid of dependence on foreign core technologies and form independent innovation paths is the gap that must be crossed to achieve industrial innovation and upgrading. In this process, it is necessary to abandon the "Heavy research and development, light production", "Put education over skills", "Quantity over effectiveness" of the binary opposition of the inertial thinking, back to the production process, attaches great importance to the production line on policy actions of people and things, make spirit in practice, through scientific knowledge exploration and production experience accumulated two-wheel driven, Only then can China truly move towards a new model of quality-based development.

During the Q&A session, Prof.Wang answered questions such as "Problems in China's contract manufacturing" and "how China learns from Japan's coordination system". He  of sociology-detailed analysis the formation spirit and skills needed for industrial upgrading system from the point of view, as well as the development of Chinese industry skills in conflict and contradiction existing in the system, the formation of system for recognizing the plight of China's industrial development, innovation offers a new angle of view, the lecture ended in the middle of a big round of applause.
