On the last weekend of May 2021, more than 70 young Chinese anthropologists from more than 50 universities and research institutions at home and abroad gathered at Lanzhou University and sincerely shared their current research.
The Youth Anthropology Forum is a platform for young Anthropologists in China to exchange ideas. The theme of this forum is "New Era and New World: Rethinking objects, Methods and Theories of Anthropology". The forum is divided into two parts: online and offline.
In the keynote session, Peng Xinyan from Shandong University, Zhang Qingren from Minzu University of China and Mao Xueyan from Lanzhou University presented their research findings and reflections on the multi-field ethnography of cities, the development course of Mexican anthropology, and the history and structural changes of a frontier market. In addition, Ms. Gu Xiaoqing, deputy editor of East China Normal University Press, took "Mint Experimental Book Department" as an example to summarize the publishing process and future vision of anthropology works of the press.
In order to facilitate the full exchange of scholars, the conference set up four simultaneous sub-forums which are the morning of 29th, the afternoon of 29th and the morning of 30th . The discussion of Fei Xiaotong's ecological thoughts, Li Anzhai's social and religious thoughts and Zhuang Xuben's photographic works constitute the main content of the sub-forum "review the old and learn the new". In the sub-forum "Rethinking theory", the scholars presented their views on the theoretical pedigree of ontological transition, theoretical interaction between Chinese and British anthropology, and phenomenological anthropology.
After each sub-forum, participants gathered at the closing ceremony on the afternoon of 30th, and participated in two sessions of "Ethnographic Writing and Anthropology Teaching Round table Forum" and "Observer Participation Summary". At the forum, participants made new friends, heard new ideas, saw the diversity of research, and made new academic connections outside the conference.
