On the evening of June 5th, an academic symposium on the research and development of Contemporary Marxist philosophy and Foreign Marxist theories was held in Lanzhou University. The symposium was co-sponsored by school of Philosophy and Society, School of Marxism and Cuiying College. Kong Mingan, Professor of the School of Marxism, Nankai University; Lan Jiang, Professor of the Department of Philosophy, Nanjing University; Standing Director of the Institute of Contemporary Marxism abroad; Chen Shengbai, dean of School of Philosophy and Society of Lanzhou University, Xie Yazhou, professor of School of Marxism, and some teachers and students attended the discussion.

  At the beginning of the conference, Kong Mingan shared his teaching experience on professional learning, literature reading and thesis writing during his postgraduate period. He said that the postgraduate period is the key point to lay a solid foundation in academic career, and the degree of reading and reflection on the classic original works determines the depth of thought in academic paper writing. In addition, the topic selection of master's research paper had better be specific to a certain thinker's issue, avoiding false, big, empty topic. Professor Lan Jiang believed that during the postgraduate period, students can do some simple translation of foreign literature to help them understand the true meaning of the original work, and pay attention to the real problems of this era for the topic selection of the paper. Good research can be done in a real sense only by looking at classic problems from the perspective of modern people, judging the current changes of the times and actively seeking solutions to practical problems while ‘talking with thinkers’.

  In the free discussion session, teachers and students asked the two experts questions about the problems they found in the learning process. The atmosphere was electric and the audience benefited a lot from the discussion. In the end, dean of Philosophy and Social Prof.Chen concluded, Professor Kong and Professor Lan’s who have profound academic background and unique academic vision, presented the forefront of contemporary Marxist philosophy and Marxism theory research direction abroad for teachers and students.
