Group activities held by the School of Philosophy and Sociology from July to August

Part 1: Academic symposiums

From July 26th to 30th, Professor Ma Tianjun from Sun Yat-sen University, Professor Kong Mingan from Nankai University and Professor Zhu Rui from Renmin University of China were invited to attend three ‘Face-to-face with Academics’ symposiums, focusing on various frontier issues of philosophy. These in-depth exchanges of the symposiums are on the topic of ‘the relationship between philosophy and knowledge’, ‘economic determinism’, ‘the development of artificial intelligence’ and other profound issues.

 

Part 2: Lectures and group learning

Invited by the School of Philosophy and Sociology, multiple renowned scholars from over 10 top universities and institutions in China were to set a series of courses, lectures and practical trainings from July 26th to 30th. It attracted nearly 400 college teachers and students to attend the activities from both online and offline. With the opportunity of the opening of the Computational Social Science faculty class themed on ‘Fei Xiaotong group learning forum: Social planning for the future’,the school combined discipline construction, scientific research exchange and education, in order to broaden students’ horizons in the digital era.

 

 

Part 3: Practical and innovating practice

From July 21st to 22nd, a two-day’s visit of multicultural education was organized by the school, the faculty and students visited Xinglong Mountain, Lingming hall, Lanzhou Confucian temple and other cultural resorts.

On the afternoon of July 29th, our school initiated the ‘In touch with enterprise’ activities . The faculty and students visited Gansu Qiyuan Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd., a professional training base, where they got up close and personal with the latest multi-functional drone technology.

Furthermore, four undergraduate students were selected to serve as interns in Xiamen Qianchang Culture Communication Co., Ltd., which an alumnus Li Cunming hold the post of president.

 

Part 4: International collaborative courses

From July 5th to 13rd, Prof. Iris Chi was invited to teach the course of Aging Social Policy for the school, focusing on the aging theory and other related issues, which would be effective towards social work practice for the aging people and their families.

From July 19th to 24th, Prof. Serge Lee was invited to teach the course of Multi-Level Advanced Health Social Work Practice for the school. The purpose of the course is making students understand the evolving role of social work in a healthy environment (such as primary health care, specialist clinics, hospitals), as the relationship between psychosocial health, disease and medical care throughout the life cycle.
